Quake Voltage

It is sad to say that from 8 players that signed for Quake 2 @ DreamHack event, only 5 could come to the event. All these players were playing in 1 group - it’s claw, Pogo, PURRI, sorax and Spam. Of course everyone knows who was in favor to win the event. Let’s hope that this kind of inactivity won’t cancel the discipline on the next DreamHack, because 5 players that visit a tourney like that (and the biggest LAN event in  Quake 2 scene) isn’t just serious! DreamHack has started on Saturday with Quake World discipline. Such players as Nabbe and ParadokS didn’t show up to the event. Yeserday the tourney moved to Quake 2 and Quake 3 (ESWC qualifiers for the Grand Finals) that will take place on the event.  Quake 2 list has such famous names as:

Yesterday LowLandLions organization held an online tournament with some prizes for first 2 places. There were 16 spots opened for regisration. LowLandLions organization will be holding a Quake 3 duel cup this weekend.

• Date: 15th of June
• Max players: 16
• Start time: 19.00 CET in #LLL.q3cup (QuakeNET IRC)

The new 4v4 CTF cup for Quake 3 is announced by ClanBase:

"The SummerCup will differentiate from the regular seasons (Spring/Fall cups). SummerCups have always been "less-serious" and more fun-oriented cups, and this will not change with this one. The rules will however be applied just as strict as always, I do hope however that clans will be a bit more easy-going when it comes to the server searches".

To differentiate, the format of this cup will be 4v4 and featuring non-standard maps. The maps are:

• q3wcp18

This summer is going to be hot for all the UT 2004 fans, because ClanBase is hosting 1v1 DM, 2v2 TDM and 4v4 TAM cups! This events have to warm up the activity in the Unreal Tournament scene.

Registration rules

Few weeks ago, 4Kings announced "Their comeback to Quake 3 scene" and ddk had joined the team to represent it in Quake 3. This time 4King’s enlarging again - they have made a contract with talanted Austrian player Richard "noctis" Gansterer!

Currently working as an IT Technician in Vienna, Richard has had experience of Quake at the highest level from the past right up to the present. He comes to us after playing 1v1 for a-Losers for some time, and has been a part of one the best European TDM team for 2 years also. Boasting an undefeated record in both Quake 3 and Quake 4 for three years in Austria, it is obvious he comes to 4Kings looking strong.

Having attended CPL Italy in 06 (5th-8th place) and the ESWC Finals 06/07, he is no rookie of top events either and is looking to build on his performances this Summer in this year’s ESWC.

The last weekend Netherlands held the ESWC qualifiers. Back then oldschool player if-22 took the first place, winning Vo0 in the finals. However, Vo0 is still going to the ESWC Grand Finals - the decision of ESWC is to give a second spot, but the player has to pay the airfare and the whole trip.

Ivo "Forever" Lindhout stated on GameLux, that this episode isn’t fair at all. Forever did not attent the event, because he didn’t know there was a second prize:

"…It all started when Vo0 was given a 1st seed in Quake 3 Arena while he hasn’t achieved anything in Quake 3 Arena… Vo0 may have preformed well in Pain Killer but that has nothing to do with Quake 3 Arena…This is all sad, if GameLux announced this 1 or 2 weeks in advance…Then there was no problem…I find it sad that an organisation announces a second spot 5 days AFTER the event…"

One of the best matches in EDL - the semifinal, that took place yesterday at 20:00 CET. The previous semifinal Guard and Cypher was canceled and then a tech win was given to Belarus player, because Guard was having problems with internet connection. This time two killers were fighting for spot in the finals:

The summary

Q4Max 0.82 has been released. Even though the Quake 4 scene is in deep inactivity it’s a good job that some people are still creating the upgrades. This upgrade has 3 major features:

Tutorbot:

Tutorbot is a special type of bot, which can be used to playback demo-snippets while you’re on the server with the bot. You can either choose to spectate the bot, so you can see what it is doing, or you can stay in-game with the bot and interact with it.

There are a number of uses you can put this to:

• For true "tutorials", to teach new players how to do specific things - eg, strafe jumping, crouch sliding etc.
• For showing specific moves - eg, showing how to do "bridge to rail", or some jump or trick that you’ve recently discovered possible.
• For using as target practice. Record a bot dodging, or running down a particular hallway ; play that on a loop and keep trying to kill him.
• "Team" trickjumping : have a tutor shoot a rocket at your feet for that extra height boost.
