Q3 - activity rising: czm returns, 4K’s enlarging, GameGune with Q3
Published by Free May 31st, 2008 in Articles, Gaming, Quake 3, World events.
The activity of
Quake 3 scene is probably on the top level this year. After Q3 had appeared on ESWC gamelist we can see a huge number of oldschool comebacks, various leagues and some investition in this game again. This week, it’s 3 amazing news for all the Quake community and especially for
Quake 3 fans.
The first one is that, well-known world organization -
4Kings is "Coming back to Quake"! The official statement:
"With the announcement of Quake 3 being one of the official games during the 2008 edition of the ESWC, taking place outside of France for the first time ever, a lot of old school players decided to get back to the roots and play this old but still marvellous game, one more time, ddk is one of them.
It isn’t the first time 4Kings is going to Quake as you may know, the last time being on Quake 4 with one of the most powerful TDM squad in Europe, with a lot of great players.
But this time we decided to go for a 1on1 player, Dan Kapadia, better known as ddk, as the 20 years old British is known to have played for the National Team during a lot of seasons and broke through the TDM scene mainly during the first Q4 Eurocup, where he could end up fourth with his old team, Dignitas.
So as you can see, it’s an experienced player who’s making his way to the Kings, and here is what he had to say about joining up with his new organization".
- Statement from
Dan "ddk" Kapadia:
"I’m really please to join 4K, one of the most reknowned and revered multi-gaming organisations out there! I’m going to represent them in q3, although the near-to-distant future regarding events (and my education) is uncertain, right now the focus is on the ESWC qualifiers in June."
- Statement from 4Kings manager,
Ian "Javax" Leckey:
"The addition of ddk to 4Kings is a promising one. With one of the hottest UK talents, coupled with the fact that Quake 3 is taking off again (with ESWC and the recently announced AGP circuit), 4Kings is assured to stay at the top of the scene, as has been the case in the past. With ddk’s accolades and achievements in the deathmatch genre, he’ll be a fine addition to the team. His first 4Kings LAN appearance will be at the ESWC United Kingdom qualifier this Summer."

The second article is about official return of world’s top
Q3 duel player -
Paul "czm" Nelson, who had joined
Team EG recently! The press release of Team EG:
May 29, 2008 - Team EG is excited to announce the acquisition of a new player, Paul "czm" Nelson, to represent the EG brand in the immortally popular deathmatch title, Quake 3. Recognized by many as the greatest Quake 3 player in the game’s history, Paul boasts over 25 first place finishes in team and solo play. After winning CPL’s Winter 2006 Quake 3 tournament, Paul seemingly disappeared from the community and remained inactive, but has returned in full force with EG.
"I look forward to representing EG at the ESWC Masters event in Paris, and subsequently working with them to develop my side-career as a professional gamer," said Paul. "It has been a while since I last competed in Quake 3, so it should be quite exciting and challenging to compete against today’s best players. Expect to see me practicing in the near future, and stay tuned for my blogs, vlogs, and other coverage on myEG.net."

Also some additional info can be found on sk-gaming:
"The last event Nelson participated in was his championship run at CPL Winter 2006, a dominating performance over such international stars as
Anton "Cooller" Singov,
Zhibo "Jibo" Fan, and
Alexander "Z4muZ" Ihrfors. Included in that run was his remarkable comeback against his arch-nemesis Singov, climbing back from a 13-2 deficit on pro-q3dm6 to secure victory with only a sliver of health.
Team EG Executive Director Alex Garfield who has put together winning squads in Counter-Strike and Call of Duty 4, but is still missing an international victory, looks forward to his newest prospect. "It’s an honor for EG to be part of Paul’s first long-term commitment to a professional gaming organization. He’s a player who’s been courted by many organizations over the past five years, and I’m glad that he sees in EG what I see in EG; I think we were the best fit for him, and we’re going to give him more support than he’s ever had before."

Nice article, keep up the good work, folks!
CPL Winter 2006 was the first time i ever connected via gtv, straight into a czm-match on hub:). The Cooller - czm match
later on q3-dm6 was fantastic, the highpoint of the tournament.
We’ll see if czm can do it again.
czm haven’t played since 2005, and he needs a lot of time to “recover” =) Hate some people on ESR that post their “amazing” demos where they beat czm or zero4. I would like to see them play on LAN and when this oldschool guys will be really in shape…
